Men at Work

The preparations for this year’s party started early on with the planning. It was somewhere around April that my mommy developed the construction/dirt truck theme. I love to play in the dirt so it was only fitting that I have a dirt cake. From there, the imagination ran rampant and my mommy went crazy. She had invitations made that fit the theme perfectly.

My daddy found personalized construction hats, ducks that had hard hats, and straw cups that looked like construction cones. They found caution tape and miniature dump trucks. Aunt Jessilyn flew in for the grand event. Her and my mom made the dirt cake and filled the miniature dump trucks and a big one for the adults.

Best of all, the Platko’s loaned the bouncy house to us so me and my friends could spend the afternoon bouncing around.

The shift started at 3 and the first one on the site was Emily. Josh couldn’t make it as he got sick the morning of. But there were plenty of other kids to play with including Rebecca and Andrew, James, Ellen and Owen, and Jocelyn. When we weren’t bouncing around, we were playing in the water table, or on the slides. With pretzels and dip as the appetizers, dinner started around 5. Soon thereafter, birthday cake followed for everyone. I wasn’t quite sure what to think of everyone singing to me or the flame in front of me. With a little assistance, the candle was blown out and I dove right in for the pudding…best birthday cake ever!

With everyone gathered on the lawn I proceeded to open my presents in two year old fashion…nice and slow so everyone knew what I got. I had some assistance with that too as the three and five year olds didn’t think I was opening them quick enough. Before I knew it all the presents were opened and I was left with too much to play with including art supplies and easels, piggy bank, scooter, basketball hoop, water table, trucks, workbench, story book reader, food cutting set, broom, puzzles, T-ball set and a jack in the box. I feel so fortunate to be surrounded by family and friends that love me on such a special day. Happy birthday to me!

When I'm 64!

Today is my second birthday!! Can you believe I have been on this earth for two years as of 9:11 p.m. today? Because Mommy had a business trip in “Cali” we started the celebration early with my B-I-G present. My very own bike! She rounded the corner ringing a bell. I was a little confused but definitely knew it was a bike, but not sure why I was being honored in such a fabulous way. Regardless, I am now the proud owner of a three-wheeler and loving it.

As for my big day, I awoke to a room full of balloons and daddy greeting me.

At school we celebrated my birthday in grand fashion. My classmates made me a big birthday card, I got to play with the parachute, and we ate mini ice cream sandwiches.

Daddy picked me up from school and we went to that fantastic place where a kid can be a kid – Chuckee E. Cheese. I played tons of games with daddy and had a great time. We came home to a mountain of presents. I got a floor puzzle and a toy school bus; I’m saving the mountain of presents for my party. I had to immediately put my floor puzzle together. It was a long day full of birthday fun! I am ready for my party!

Get the Party Started!

Happy birthday to my crush, Emily! It’s so great that Emily and I are only 4 days apart because that means more birthday cake for me. Emily had her birthday party at Gymboree and I had a ball! Some of my buddies from school were there… Emma, Leah and Prisha. I had never been to Gymboree but it’s kind of like The Little Gym. After playing around we had pizza and sang Emily happy birthday. Out came the cup cakes that I thoroughly enjoyed! Who doesn’t love a good birthday party!

Opposites Attract

In the news today is my ability to tell the difference between opposites. This has been in the works and was recently realized by my parents. Most recently when grabbing the milk out of the fridge I looked at my mama and said “heavy.” When I attempt to help lift my lunch bag at school or home, its been determined I need to start working out. After I dumped a glass of water on her I proceeded to tell her “wet.” She didn’t find it nearly as funny as I did. I’ve known all about “hot” but with the summer heat not giving us a break I have been drinking more ice water. When given a straw cup full of ice water I don’t like to hold it because it’s “cold.” Finally, a couple weeks ago we were in Hoboken visiting my friend Tal when I saw a “big ship” in the river heading out to sea and lots of “small” sailing boats. I proceeded to tell my parents all about the big and little ships that were floating by on the river. I have also started drinking out of a big boy cup!

She Wore An Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini

Ahhh...summertime, summertime, sum, sum, summertime! How can you not love summertime when you have ladies in bikinis all around you! The days of summer have arrived and that means water days at school! And that also means itsy bitsy bikinis with diapers bulging out. Life could not be better than this! Every Tuesday and Friday bring such excitement as I am going to spend the morning with my girlfriend, Emily, running through sprinklers. As you can see below, she can definitely pull off the bikini. And what could be better, she wants to hold my hand...now that is true love!

I Wanna Be Like Mike

Early this morning I woke up from a terrible dream; someone had stolen my beloved basketball. I looked frantically all around my crib to make sure it was a bad dream but my basketball was no where to be found. I let out a big cry followed by basketball over and over and over until my parents came in. I was so upset and trying to tell him that someone had stolen my basketball. It was not until my mom came walking in with my basketball that I finally calmed down and went back to sleep. I may be a little addicted to basketball.

Make a Memory

Boom! boom! BOOM! Why can't every day end with a fireworks show? I am so fortunate to live where I live because we have some of the best fireworks in the nation. We kicked off 4th of July a bit early on the 1st with South River fireworks. Josh and Jason came over to watch with us as both Josh and I were mommy-less for the night. I was so enthralled with the fireworks that I kept pointing at them and saying "boom!"

Saturday the 3rd we headed to Red Bank to celebrate with the Platko's. It was one year ago today that I met Josh sitting on a blanket under a tree waiting for the fireworks to start. It was a great afternoon hanging out together, followed by an awesome evening full of making memories under a sky full of "booms"! Although the songs weren't the most patriotic...for instance "Let's Make a Memory" is not really in line with how great our Country is, it sure is a fitting title for this entry. I can't wait for next year. It's amazing how much changes in a year:

We headed to the beach bright and early on the 4th to get a good spot. I got to "pet" a fish that had been caught by a fisherman who explained all the parts of the fish to me. He ended up throwing the fish back in the water; why would you do such a thing? My mommy finally introduced daddy and I to Surf Taco...best surfer joint ever! I think that may have to become a weekend ritual! I even got a bumper sticker for my wagon.

On Monday we spent the morning with Frank who never ceases to amaze me or make me smile. Leave it to Frank to make me look amazing! And what would a holiday weekend be without a BBQ! We wrapped up the nice long weekend with a dip in the Platko pool and hot dogs.

ABC...Easy as 1-2-3

Don't mind me if I break into song or ask you to sing "How", I just love to sing to myself. I have a few favorites which include "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star", my "ABC's", or my all time favorite "Wheels on the Bus." I also love to count but depending on the week or day, you may get me to count only to 2 or I may just say 3,4,5, or I may count all the way to 10 skipping 7 and 8 in between. My favorite place to sing is in the car. I even sing in my sleep; Ms. Liz caught me singing Wheels on the Bus as I was rolling my arms and then doing beep beep by putting my arm out to honk the horn.

Move Along

Recently the Spring session of swimming lessons wrapped up so this found me with nothing to burn energy on. My parents decided that they would put me back into gymnastics but this time I am going to The Little Gym. It’s a bit different as it is a gym specifically meant for 5 years and under. The activities are designed to build motor skills in a fun and nurturing environment, while fostering enhanced emotional, intellectual and social skills. Each week we work on a different skill set followed by learning a new sign language word. Although structured, it provides a great outlet that allows me to do things at my own pace and when I choose to do so.
