This weekend we traveled back to Baltimore for one night, Friday, to see Evan and Corey. They live in a beautiful brownstone in downtown Baltimore with lots of space to crawl. We had lots of fun at a middle eastern resturant where I tried hummus and pita for the first time. Hummus is good with pita, but not alone...not sure about the texture. I also tried a lemon for the first time and last time! I think my face said it all. I wasn't quite sure the first time I sucked on it, but by the second time I was pretty sure there is a reason for sugar in this world.
On Saturday we got up and drove to DC. My first trip to the Nation's capital was awesome. We met up with Mike and Amy, and Brad and Andrea. We walked, and walked, and walked and walked some more. Our first stop was the White House. I was hoping for an invite to play on the $4,000 playground on the White House lawn, but no one would come to the gate when I knocked. I stuck around for a little to see if Sasha and Malia would come out and play, but the guards drew weary so I decided to stroll on to the kite festival. For such a dreary, misty day, there were several people flying very large kites. It was really neat to see the variations of obsessions for some odd characters. We then strolled over to the National Monument, then on to the War II Memorial where daddy and mommy showed me every state they lived in...that's a lot of states - I fell asleep on that tour of duty. We then went to The Mall (Reflecting Pond) and stopped off at the Korean War memorial, up to the Lincoln Monument and over to the Vietnam Vets memorial. After that we walked up to the Holocoust Musuem which was really packed, but neat.
Our day concluded with an early dinner and a trip to the brewery where the parentals engaged in some drinks and I ate me some yummy ice cream. It was finally at Union Station I was able to meet Obama...okay well he was on cardboard but I still got my picture taken with him. On our stroll home I fought every minute so I could take in this awesome city, but the back of my eyelids won out.
The next day we drove across the bridge to Old Town, Alexandria to an awesome little French bakery, Le Madeline's. I tried a crescent for the first time with raspberry jam...it was delicious. Mommy bought extra to bring home with us to enjoy with my oatmeal this week. The sun finally made an appearance so we walked around the town enjoying the cherry blossoms and spring weather.
After a long drive home with traffic it was nice to get back to my crib and see my kitty...home sweet home! Maybe next time Obama, you'll be lucky enough to meet me.
