Lions and Tigers and Bears...Oh My!

Today we traveled to Forked River, NJ. Why you ask? To visit the Popcorn Park Zoo. This was my very first trip to the zoo and it was definitely an awesome experience. The Popcorn Park Zoo is a different kind of zoo than your typical zoo. Located in a remote part of New Jersey, not that far from the ocean, but sits within the forest. Amongst the trees you will find every type of animal that is at a normal zoo, but they have amazing stories. You see these animals are sick, elderly, abandoned, abused, or injured, and could no longer survive in their natural habitat. So they came to live at the Popcorn Park Zoo.

What makes this zoo so much fun is that you have the ability to feed each and every animal popcorn. Not that all of them eat the popcorn but you can still throw it at them to see if they'll bite. Plus, every animal has a story posted outside its cage as to how it came to live at the zoo. The stories were heart warming and some were very sad. But I kept in mind that although they had it bad, they now live in a fostering environment of love and shelter, with no worries other than when the next guest will throw popcorn their way.

It was a great day followed by ice cream at Friendly's...I was stuffed. I returned home to hug and appreciate my kitty...then I pulled her tail ;)
